New love: X Factor star Cher Lloyd has been dating Essex socialite Karim Roundi since meeting him at the show's final
He is said to prefer his rising stars to stay single for the sake of their career.
So Simon Cowell will not be happy to learn that his latest protégée has been secretly dating behind his back.
According to the Sun today, X Factor finalist Cher Lloyd has been seeing Essex socialite Karim Roundi since the final of the show last month.
The tiny singer from Worcestershire was introduced to Roundi backstage by his friend and Cher's fellow contestant Paije Richardson.
And according to friends of the pair, Cher, 17, and Roundi, 20, hit it off instantly, swapped numbers and have been seeing each other ever since.
Speaking to the paper, one said: 'They met after one of the shows when Paije and Cher both performed.
'They kept in touch and hooked up properly after the final when she whisked him back to the May Fair hotel in London.
'They're besotted with each other. He's been saying he wants to move in with her as she's moving to London for her music.'
But the romance is expected not to go down so well with Cowell who is believed to prefer his stars to be single to make them more marketable.
Cher has signed a record deal with Cowell's Syco and Cowell will be concerned that Roundi's party lifestyle will not distract his new star.
The friend added: 'He's always going to clubs and is known as an "Essex socialite".'
The paper added that a spokesman for Cher confirmed the relationship last night and said: 'Yes, they are an item.'
And their Twitter pages would certainly suggest that there is something between the pair.
On New Year's Eve, Roundi took to his page to leave a message for Cher that said: 'Where's my lil space chimp @CherLloyd? Blah!'
Then the following day he added: '@CherLloyd fancy kidnapping me? I miss you.'
On January 4, she wrote: @karimroundi la la la. Watchin you. Ha', to which he replied, 'la la la! I'll be good baby!! *bbm eyelashes face*', suggesting that have also been in touch via their BlackBerry phones.
