Matthew Fox has Lost some weight... and gained SERIOUS muscle for unrecognisable role in Alex Cross movie

Unrecognisable: Matthew Fox has shed every ounce of body fat and gained a lot of muscle for his new film role in Alex Cross

Matthew Fox has gone from brainy to brawny.

The former Lost star - who played Dr Jack Shephard in hit ABC series Lost - looks unrecognisable as a beefed up cage fighter in his new movie Alex Cross.

Fox, 45, has seemingly shed every ounce of body fat - and must have been working out hard, resulting in an impressively ripped physique.

The actor plays cage-fighter/killer Picasso in the film, which is set for release in October.

He is seen here in newly-released stills of the rebooted movie franchise, which will see Tyler Perry taking over the titular role from Morgan Freeman.

British star Idris Elba of The Wire had initially been cast as Cross - before being replace by Perry.

It will co-star Edward Burns, Rachel Nichols and Jean Reno.

Fox plays the baddie role and arch adversary of private investigator Cross.

Fox has been in the headlines recently after being charged with two misdemeanours following his recent DUI arrest.

The actor was stopped in the early hours of May 4 after an officer noticed his vehicle was not signalling properly or staying in lane with traffic and then determined he had been drinking.

A spokesperson at the Deschutes County, Oregon, District Attorney's office said that although he was released later that day, on May 9 the actor was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and driving without a license.

His arraignment hearing is set for June 7.

The actor lives in nearby Bend, Oregon, with his family - wife of 10 years Margherita Ronchi and their two children, daughter Kyle and son Byron.

This is not the first time Matthew has had a run in with the law.

In August last year he was accused by Ohio bus driver Heather Bormann of assault and battery after she claimed he drunkenly tried to get onto her vehicle and demanded she drove him to his hotel.
