Frozen: Simon Cowell's facial expressions appeared limited on Piers Morgan's show, but much more natural last year, right
He is famous for keeping a stiff upper lip when confronted with weeping wannabes on his talent shows.
But it looks as though Simon Cowell no longer has much choice in the matter.
The 51-year-old, who once described Botox as ‘no more unusual than toothpaste’, appears to have gone a little too far in his efforts to keep wrinkles at bay.
Host: Piers Morgan's U.S. chat show, Tonight, attracts major celebrities
And during an appearance on Piers Morgan’s U.S. chat show on Tuesday night, viewers were surprised by his rather restricted facial movements – and his waxwork-like complexion.
However, Cowell’s added composure may have come in useful when Morgan quizzed him on the tricky topic of why he axed Cheryl Cole from the U.S. version of the X Factor. The star calmly said he made the decision because Miss Cole looked ‘bewildered’ during her early appearances on the show.
Botox is a toxic protein or nerve poison which is injected into the face and forehead to relax frown lines and smooth wrinkles. It works by temporarily paralysing the facial muscles.
Cowell has admitted having the treatment in the past, saying: ‘Yes, I’ve had Botox, but not in an obsessive way.
‘Then again, every guy I know who works in the City has had it now. It works, you do it once a year – who cares?’
X Factor judge Louis Walsh once claimed that Cowell had persuaded him to have cosmetic surgery because of the introduction of high-definition television, adding: ‘I don’t know what bits of him are real any more, I don’t think he does either.’ In June, viewers of Britain’s Got Talent were shocked when Cowell appeared to have a drooping left eye during the show’s live semi-final.
At the time, a show source said: ‘Simon had overdone things a little with the Botox and it soon showed up on camera – especially as we film in high definition, which is particularly unforgiving.’
Image-conscious Cowell was also reported to have become hooked on an anti-ageing smoothie containing lingonberry, acerola berry and chokeberry that he discovered while touring the U.S. for the American X Factor this summer.
