These boots aren't made for walking: Lady Gaga leaves her LA studio and reveals chunky, punk-style boots underneath her elegant dress last night
She had us going there for a minute.
It looked as though Lady Gaga had decided to eschew the wacky - and increasingly tiresome - outfits, for good.
For two days in L.A, the blonde New Yorker had chosen classic dresses, first a classic Versace and second up, a pastiche of Audrey Hepburn's iconic ensemble from 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany's.
Tired but still rocking it: Gaga retires to her Rolls Royce after a hard day, her beehive and earrings from earlier are gone
But last night as she left a recording studio in the early hours, the 25-year-old pop superstar revealed she's still got an edge.
Admittedly there were no fangs, prosthetic shoulders or horns, but the lady is not for turning... into a 'normal' celebrity.
Ten hours after disappearing into the studio, the Born This Way star emerged looked a little dishevelled.
The Hepburn homage had unravelled slightly, with the beehive loosened over the course of the session, and the large vintage earrings she modelled earlier had been removed.
Travelling in style: Gaga's Rolls Royce waits for her on Melrose Avenue
However the big reveal came when she lifted the skirt of her classic dress to reveal a diaphanous skirt over punky lace-up platforms.
And they were huge, definitely too big to walk in for very far, but happily Gaga had a matching Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe, waiting for her on the sidewalk.
It was always going to be the ultimate gimmick for the eccentric Lady Gaga.
With every visceral taboo broken, from meat dress to climbing inside a womb to feigning labour on stage, the legend had nowhere to go.
Except, of course, to the one area that no-one would ever expect, that of chic normality.
