Kate Moss returns to her hometown of Croydon by helicopter for new Rimmel ad

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Going back to her roots: Supermodel Kate Moss returned to her hometown of Croydon to film an advert for Rimmel make-up on the roof of the Whitgift shopping centre

Since being discovered by a model scout aged 14, Kate Moss has left her hometown of Croydon firmly in her past.

But the supermodel decided to go back to her roots for the new Rimmel make-up advert as she was airlifted into the South London suburb via helicopter.

The 37-year-old blonde was back on stunning form in a red mini dress, patent peep-toe heels and lashings of red lipstick as she shot the commercial on the roof of Croydon's famous Whitgift shopping centre.

The catwalk queen was seen striding across the roof of the Whitgift Centre's multi-storey car park and jumping into a slick black chopper before being lifted over the concrete jungle that is Croydon town centre.

Although the shoot took place at sunrise, Moss was seen earlier on street level near the Allders department store with her hair in rollers and enjoying two of her vices - white wine and a cigarette.

During the promo, there was heavy security on site and the entire top floor of the car park had to be cleared from excited fans.

Many onlookers misheard and thought Prince William's new wife Kate Middleton, aka Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, was in the helicopter.

The model's return to Croydon comes six months after she complained the area had become 'rough' since her childhood.

She told Stylist magazine: 'It’s so rough. My dad was in the pub the other day and somebody got shot.'

Moss grew up in Addiscombe - just a mile down the road from the Whitgift Centre - and honed her famous style by shopping in second-hand stores while growing up.

When she was dating Hollywood star Johnny Depp in the Nineties, she apparently took him back to the suburb for a tour and brought him to Surrey Street Market and Po Na Na's nightclub.

Of course, Croydon's nightlife has changed a lot since Moss was growing up - perhaps the Rehab bar or Tiger Tiger may not be quite to her tastes these days.
