As Britain trudges back to work

It’s the spring that just keeps on giving. After the hottest April for 350 years, forecasters are predicting yet more warm sunshine.

Those back at their work desks today can console themselves with the thought that we’re heading for another bout of fine weather.

Commuters returning to the office face delays caused by a huge increase in the number of lorries and roadworks.

This meant holidaymakers became stuck behind slow moving caravans on some of Britain’s major roads from 10am yesterday.

But parks and beaches in the South and East should become a magnet for day trippers at the weekend as temperatures climb to 23c (73f).

Those in the West, however, may want to have an umbrella handy.

Tony Burgess, of the Met Office, said most of the country would enjoy sunshine during the week. ‘The strong breezes will die down as we reach Wednesday which will push temperatures up to 20c (68f) by Thursday,’ he said.

'As we approach the weekend there is an increasing chance of showers in the West but the East and South will remain fine and dry.’

Most of the UK enjoyed clear skies and sun on the May Day bank holiday yesterday but strong chilly breezes and showers in the South West caused some families to cut short their breaks.
