Growing up too fast: Suri Cruise taken to see Daniel Radcliffe's latest play - which takes the mickey out of her father Tom

Not a theatre fan? Katie Holmes and an unhappy-looking daughter Suri arrive on Broadway to see Daniel Radcliffe's new play

She's known for her penchant for heels and curling up with a copy of Vanity Fair rather than Spot The Dog - but Katie Holmes appeared to be indulging Suri Cruise's grown-up tastes a step too far last night.

She taken her and Tom Cruise's little girl out for a night in New York night to see 21-year-old Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe's latest high-brow outing on the Broadway stage.

Daniel's latest project might be a musical, but How To Get Ahead In Business Without Really Trying is hardly child friendly.

What's more, the star even takes the mickey out of Suri's dad Tom Cruise in one of the acts during the show at the city's Al Hirschfeld Theatre.

Talking to the Daily Mail's Baz Bamigboye last week, Daniel explained that at one point, he jumps up and down on a sofa to lampoon Cruise's meltdown moment on Oprah Winfrey.

He said after a preview performance last week: ‘We had an intelligent audience in tonight. They got the Tom Cruise reference.’

Directed by Tony winner Rob Ashford - an associated director of London's revered Donmar Warehouse - critics have already raved about the show's 'perfectly paced musical numbers, hilarious solo bits and acrobatic choreography.'

It's an adaptation of Frank Loesser’s Pulitzer Prize-winning 1961 satirical musical and is described by the director as being set on the eve of the Cuban missile crisis.

However, Suri, dressed in a pink puffa jacket, pink Ugg boots and a black and white spotted skirt, didn't seem thrilled to seeing it with her mother Katie, who was looking sallow in a shiny mac wearing drainpipes and ballet pumps.

The play follows Radcliffe’s character, J. Pierrepont Finch, who, armed with a guidebook called How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, follows the book’s step-by-step rules for climbing the corporate ladder and goes from window washer to chairman of the board.

Ashford told Broadway.com of his leading man: 'Dan could not be a better fit for Finch. He’s the type of guy who would leap off a cliff and figure out how he’s going to land halfway down.

'Even though he once told me he couldn’t dance at all, he threw himself into rigorous training with determination and fearlessness. And now, Dan leads the show’s climactic production number, “Brotherhood of Man,” with joy and confidence.

'Dan is at once innocent and fiercely intelligent. This particular energy is what is so joyous for me about having Dan and Rose Hemingway (Rosemary) and the other younger people in the show: They give a modern spin to the period characters they’re playing.

However, it's doubtful the director intended the youth appeal of the show to include the four-year-old daughters of one of the figures it gleefully targets...

How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying began previews on February 26 and opens officially on March 27.

Star of the show: Daniel is the lead in the satirical musical, which is set in the 1960s
