Bryan Adams, his pregnant PA and the mystery of his long-term girlfriend

By Sara Nathan

With her unmistakable baby bump, this is the first glimpse of the personal assistant expecting Bryan Adams’s child.
The 51-year-old singer had surprised his fans last week by announcing he was expecting a baby with Alicia Grimaldi in May.

But as the lady in question stepped out in London, speculation over Adams’s love life intensified, following revelations in the Mail that he has been dating another woman for the past two years.

Antonia Harrison, 35, is said to have been in a long-term relationship with the singer. And yesterday, asked about Miss Grimaldi and Adams, the advertising executive said: ‘I don’t want to talk about it at the moment.’

She and Adams are said to have enjoyed weekends together at his £2.4million home in Chelsea, South-West London, and were frequently spotted at the Painted Heron, a smart Indian restaurant on Cheyne Walk, a short stroll from his house.

They had also shared dinners at La Famiglia, where Princess Diana, who was close to the singer, was a regular.

A friend in Miss Harrison’s circle said they considered the pair an item, although they stressed that both were ‘very discreet’ about the romance.

And another source confirmed last night that Adams and Miss Harrison – nicknamed ‘Tooty’ by friends – had been in a relationship.

Miss Harrison is the former marketing director of Euro RSCG, one of the world’s largest communications agencies. Earlier this month it was announced that she had been poached to become deputy general manager of Leo Burnett agency’s luxury division, Atelier.

Complicated love life: Despite Miss Grimaldi's pregnancy, Adams, left, is said to have been dating Antonia Harrison, right, for the past two years

Miss Grimaldi, a 31-year-old Cambridge graduate, met the singer in 2004, when she helped him set up the Bryan Adams Foundation. The couple have avoided being seen together at public events. However, they are now said to be sharing his Chelsea home.

Miss Grimaldi graduated in 2001 with a degree in social and political sciences after switching from medicine at the end of her first year.

She has impeccable French heritage – her father, retired surgeon Peter Martin Gort Beaufort Grimaldi, is a Marquis. Miss Grimaldi’s mother Sylvia is titled Marquesa Grimaldi, and she and her sisters, Carina and Sophia, are all listed in Burke’s Peerage.

Last week, Mr Grimaldi, who is Deputy Lord Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, told the Mail that he and his wife regarded their daughter’s pregnancy as ‘fantastic news’.

‘It will be our first grandchild and, of course, we are all delighted for Alicia and Bryan,’ he said.

‘I have met Bryan many, many times. He obviously has a huge fan club, me included. They are both very excited.’

Mr Grimaldi, 66, refused to comment on whether the pair had plans to marry, saying only, ‘that is a private matter’.

Rockstar lifestyle: Adams, who had a string of hits in the Eighties and Nineties, had previously denied any intention of settling down

Adams had a series of successful singles and albums in the 1980s but his biggest hit was 1991’s (Everything I Do) I Do It For You, the theme tune to the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. It spent 16 weeks at the top of the British singles charts.

The Canadian rock star gave a clue to his relationship with Miss Grimaldi by thanking her for her help on his Live in Lisbon DVD in 2005.

More recently confirming her pregnancy, he said: ‘Alicia Grimaldi and I are expecting a baby. She helped me start my foundation years ago and it looks like she’ll be running the family now.’

Duet: In a career spanning decades, Adams has worked alongside many other stars. Here he performs with former Spice Girl Mel C

In 2003, his former girlfriend, Cecilie Thomsen, claimed he had cheated on her with the Princess of Wales. At the time he said: ‘Miss Thomsen doesn’t know anything about my friendship with Diana, nor does anyone else.’

He once said: ‘I’ve got no plans to get married, and I’m not interested in being married. Not to say that it isn’t possible, but something about the whole idea of it sort of puts me off.

‘Anyway, it wouldn’t be particularly fair if I said, “OK honey, we’re getting married, and then, by the way, did I tell you I have a three-year tour? Bye!”.’
